If you are looking for a wonderful evening of fun, come to this month’s first in-person OPEN MIC Night - Stories on the Square at the Corner Coffee and Wine Shop on the corner of Main and Church Streets in Hayesville, NC. Nationally-known storyteller, author and teacher Elizabeth Ellis headlines the re-opening of OPEN MIC Night - Stories on the Square program. The program is on Friday, August 20th. Doors open at 5:45 pm with the show starting at 6:00 p.m.
Texas storyteller Ellis will present an evening concert of fun, spirit-lifting family stories related to hot summer days and cool starry nights. Ms. Ellis appearance is sponsored by the area storytelling group, MOUNTAIN AREA STORYTELLERS. It will be a free to public and will be part of the regular OPEN MIC Night - Stories on the Square monthly series at the Corner Coffee and Wine Shop in historic downtown Hayesville, North Carolina. The program is from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Additional storytellers, writers, poets and musicians may sign up to perform at the open mic after the one hour performance by Ms. Ellis.
Elizabeth Ellis is an American storyteller and author known for her live performances of traditional tales, literature, Texas and Appalachian history and folklore and personal memoir. She is also the author of two leading storytelling books, From Plot to Narrative and Every Day A Holiday. The books are considered “cornerstone” references for folks wanting to compose stories for family and friends or for a live audience. The books are each “easy reads” and are written in an entertaining style.
Ellis has been awarded the Circle of Excellence Award by the National Storytelling Network and has been recognized by the organization as a Master Storyteller. Additionally, she is a regular performer at the annual National Storytelling Festival and the international storytelling center in Jonesborough, Tennessee. She is a featured storyteller again there at the annual festival this October. As a well-know teacher she is also a frequent workshop leader locally at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina.
Local storyteller, Kanute Rarey explained “Our storytelling group, Mountain Area Storytellers, is very pleased to welcome Ellis to the stage of our monthly open mic night gathering. The event is free to the public. It will be a program enjoyed by story listeners and storytellers. This special evening marks the return of the live monthly performances for new and experienced storytellers, writers, poets and musicians to our local coffee and wine shop on the square in an open mic format.”
